MusingAround

Privacy

Your Musings, highlights, personal notes, and synthesis history are private to your account unless you explicitly enable a sharing link. Anyone with that link can read the saved source, images, highlights, and highlight comments, and confirmed members can reply. You can disable or replace the link at any time. Chat, syntheses, archived introductions, and account details remain private. Replies on shared Musings are visible to anyone with an active link, with the author’s username and avatar. Authors can edit or delete replies; the Musing owner can remove replies or restrict participation. MusingAround stores them in Supabase. Unsynced drafts stay in this browser until a confirmed save and are cleared when you sign out.

MusingAround collects first-party usage metadata: account identifiers, action types, timestamps and opaque resource identifiers for completed creations, imports, highlights, comments, saved Musings, successful Chow use and qualified foreground reading. Administrators can review account emails, usernames and usage patterns. This activity store contains no source text, titles, quotes, comment bodies, Chow prompts or responses, search terms or IP addresses. Creation counts remain after deleting an individual Musing; account deletion removes your identifiable activity. No third-party analytics provider is used.

Chat with Chow is on by default and can be turned off in Account settings → Chow. Nothing is sent to an AI provider until you send a message. When you send a Chat message, MusingAround sends your chosen saved source text or highlights and attached notes, your request, and recent conversation context through OpenRouter to an AI provider. Archived introductions and image bytes are excluded. Historical synthesis requests use saved highlights, notes, and instructions. The app requests providers that do not collect data, but availability can vary. Chow may search the web for current information; when it does, the search terms go to the search provider. Review generated text before relying on it.

Emails sent to MusingBox are processed by AI to extract and format the reading content. Public article links and retained remote images are fetched from their hosting websites, and imported images are stored privately. Automatic poster covers use the title and source text to create artwork; personal notes and archived introductions are excluded.

Deleting a Musing removes its source, highlights, and chat and synthesis history. Account settings offers permanent account deletion. Once accepted, access and shared links stop working, and removal of account data and private files continues automatically. There is no recovery through the app. Existing backups follow their retention lifecycle; previously downloaded content and externally cached previews cannot be recalled.
